  • Potential to be very good - but........

It's really hard to fairly rate the film as shown on TCM. The uncut version of the film would probably be pretty good - the actors and actesses all give interesting performances (what's left of them), the plot while hackneyed, is certainly on a par with many others of the time period, many of which are considered classics - BUT...for some reason, contrary to their usual practice, the TCM version had somewhere between 20 to 25 minutes hacked out of it - there is no plot development left, there is no introduction of the characters whatsoever, we have no idea who, what, why or where about anything. I think I would have liked this movie a lot (I'm a big fan of early comedies) but TCM butchered this one so badly that it leaves you very annoyed, disappointed and downright angy! So much for "uncut and commercial free"!
