The working title of this film was Bullwhipped. The film opens with voice-over narration explaining how the prejudice that the character of "Cheyenne" faced as an independent woman forced her into marrying a condemned man. According to a November 1957 Hollywood Reporter news item, location filming was done in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Angels Camp and Columbia, CA.
