The Brain, wanted by the police for the Glasgow-London train robbery, leaves his villa in Sicily, hires Mafia chief Scannapieco, and heads for Paris, where he is assigned as security guard for a train carrying $12 million to NATO headquarters in Brussels. Intending to repeat his earlier successful robbery, The Brain encounters competition from Arthur, an escaped convict, and his friend Anatole. The two men get away with the money but throw the bags over a bridge and into the arms of The Brain. Scannapieco then doublecrosses his partner because The Brain has been having an affair with the Mafia chief's sister, Sofia. At the dock at Le Havre, Scannapieco is arrested by the police, who believe him to be The Brain; meanwhile, Arthur discovers that Scannapieco had hidden the money inside a replica of the Statue of Liberty being shipped from France to New York. When the bottom of the statue is opened, however, the $12 million is scattered by the wind. Anatole, Arthur, and The Brain arrive in New York Harbor aboard the ship as The Brain plans to lead an assault on a $50 million gold shipment destined for Fort Knox.
