Judy Tyler, star of Bop Girl Goes Calypso, and her husband were killed in an automobile accident on July 3, 1957, just as the film was being released. Tyler had recently completed filming Jailhouse Rock (see below). Bobby Troup, the male lead in Bop Girl Goes Calypso, was a well-known musician, but does not perform any musical numbers in the film. As noted in a Hollywood Reporter news item, the film's nightclub scenes were shot at the Crescendo nightclub in Los Angeles. According to Hollywood Reporter news items, Ed Jones was to work on the screenplay and Marcus Gordon was to appear in the film, but their participation in the completed film has not been confirmed.
