Has anyone else noticed that the scene Jane plays from Luke's play is from Theordora Goes Wild with Irene Dunne and Melvyn Douglas? Another charmer.

Bedtime Story (1941)
- Mr. Blandings
- 1/22/12
Sort of a broadway version of "His Girl Friday", with March trying to get wife/ex-wife Young back into the business he loves and is sure she does, too. Would be a completely ho-hum affair if not for the acting talent backing it up. Fredric March is excellent, and this has to be the most animated, interesting, and likeable performance I've ever seen Loretta Young give--she also looks her most attractive, as well. Also good are Robert Benchley as March's friend, Olaf Hytten as the eternal butler, and Eve Arden as a comedic actress March uses to try to get his wife back in the lead role of the play he wrote. Because of the talent I would like to like this movie more, but the fact remains that the script is mostly by the numbers.

Typical romantic comedy, but you can't help but smile while watching it. The screenplay is rather witty at time, and Loretta Young is marvelous.
