Any movie with Peter Lorre in it is worth watching...Robert Alda isn't bad either.
Creepy But Uneven(1947)
More twists and turns than substance, but it is creepy and somewhat atmospheric. Hilary Cumins(Peter Lorre) is worth the price of admission.Police Commisario Ovidio Castanio (J. Carroll Nash) makes a great foil for the script. Being Irish, it is quite amazing at the variety of ethnic types he plays. Anyway, give it a chance, although the film can't make up its mind if it wants to be supernatural or just a plain murder mystery. 3.5 stars out of 5.
Even worse than a plain bad movie is a movie that raises expectations, but doesn't deliver. In the first case you can just turn if off, in the second you keep hoping for a final payoff. This starts fairly promising, although the right creepy atmosphere is never really there. Worst of all is the unravelling of the plot and discovering the culprit (guess who). If that isn't bad enough, they have to finish on a "comical" note. Now that's true horror. Like a slap in the face with a dead hand. To end on a positive note: The Hand later had a succesful TV career in The Addams Family.

There are some creepy scenes in this horror/drama. A severed hand on the loose! Any film with Peter Lorre is worth watching.
