The working titles of this film were Singing Guns and Smiling Guns. According to news items in Hollywood Reporter, this was the first of six Tim Holt pictures to be rushed into production between May and July 1942, when Holt was scheduled to enter military service. Cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edwards joined Holt in all six of these as "Ike," Holt's singing-comic sidekick, replacing former sidekicks Lee "Lasses" White and Ray Whitley. With these six pictures completed, RKO did not produce another western until 1944.
