The opening and closing cast credits differ in order. Although the closing cast credits read "in order of appearance," this is not the case because the names of Don Carrara, who played "Juicer," and James Iglehart, who played "Monk," do not appear in the end onscreen credits. The cast list above reflects the order of their appearance in the film. Dean Kimmerly's name is spelled as "Kimmerle" in opening credits. According to Filmfacts, location shooting was done in California and Yuma, Arizona. Angels as Hard as They Come marked the motion picture debut of Gary Busey and the first film written and produced by Jonathan Demme, who previously had worked as a publicity man. According to a modern source, Demme and writer Joe Viola showed their script to Roger Corman, the head of New World Pictures, who then recruited them to produce and direct the picture.
