• A funny (odd) little movie.

  A strange little movie. Very schmaltzy and with lots of bad dialogue, but a fantastic view into the world of pre-television vaudeville . Also a chance to see Milton Berle at his finest. Most folks of my generation know him from past-his-prime, appearing occasionally at a Dean Martin roast or some TV guest shots. Here we see him at his best and frankly I can see where Jerry Lewis got a lot of his schtick from. Worth a look if you are not expecting too much.

  A grotesque, largely slapstick vehicle for the King of Tacky, Milton Berle. Strictly for storage in a time capsule.

  Berle provides such a range of expression, from the nuances of a Tom and Jerry cartoon to genuine adult seriousness, making this a rare treasure, including classic Lahr vaudeville scenes.

  For those who have never seen the best of Vaudeville this film is a revelation. Berle is superb as the comedian who keeps the audience laughing, often at the expense of the audience. To see and hear his delivery of his opening comedy line to the audience, "Ladies and Gentlemen.....I don't know why I call you ladies and gentlemen, you know what you are", is reason enough to see the movie. It is a classic and should be on DVD.
