When people say "they don't make movies like that anymore " this is the movie they are talking about. Brother Orchid is a gangster movie with a heart. My teenage son did not watch black and white movies because he felt they were too old and outdated. After watching this film he got it. He discovered the joy of old movies. As he put it, this film changed his life, he became a real movie lover. I'm a sucker for a movies about redemption , that's what this movie is about. Sit back and enjoy this little movie with a big heart.

Robinson is in fine form as the gangster who reforms after hiding out in a monestary and learning what having the good life really entails. Overall the film could have been better and had more "oomph" but Edward G.'s performance is so charming that he more than makes up for the script's obvious shortcomings.

Brilliant and very underrated classic. Edward G. Robinson is magnificent. He is one of my favorite actors and have never seen him in a performance that was not great. Such a good plot, well filmed.

This is one of the greats! Edward G. Robinson's flexible acting skills reach their height once again. This movie and the movie "A slight Case of Murder" are two of the best comedy's of that period.
