This account of the life of Sir Winston Churchill covers his childhood at Woodstock, his days as a schoolboy at Harrow, his early career as a journalist, and his military adventures in Cuba, India, the Sudan, and South Africa. It traces his political career from his entry into Parliament to the beginning of World War II. The largest part of the film concentrates on his first period (1940-1945) as prime minister, with footage devoted to the battles of Dunkirk and Stalingrad, and meetings with Franklin D. Roosevelt, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, and Joseph Stalin. Sir Winston's second prime ministership and retirement are also highlighted; included are episodes with Queen Elizabeth II and John F. Kennedy.
