Resourceful, spunky Jessie Gordon aids her wealthy father Philip in purchasing a copper mine in South America by agreeing to deliver a down payment to President Ambroce Castroba before the rival Pacific Copper Company secures the deal. While Philip sails his yacht, The Yankee Girl , toward port with the second half of the payment, Jessie connives to get Castroba drunk and, not only accept her bid for the mine, but loan her fifty dollars as well. Furious at Jessie's victory, Pacific Copper representative James Seavey ambushes Philip's yacht and by bribing local officials, has it quarantined. Jessie counters by enlisting help from a former sweetheart, Jack Lawrence, who works as the American consul. Using his political savvy, Jack buys The Yankee Girl and declares it government property. Seavey engages Jack in a fist fight to prevent him from claiming the cash on the boat but is soundly defeated by the consul. Rescuing her father with minutes to spare, Jessie and her entourage arrive at the president's in time to close the deal on the copper mine.
