Beautiful capturing of Balinese Art....dancing, costumes and customs. Technocolor silent movie with a fitting musical sound track. Cast is all native Balinese natives. Story is tragic love....but the beauty is in the natural life of the time on this tropical island. A treasure.

A fantastic piece of history. Amazing job of capturing native dancing, costumes and customs. Filmed in 1933 on the island of Bali (I think before it was even called Bali?) it is a silent (captions) movie with a musical sound track that includes some Balinese style music. Actual footage of Javanese Gamelan performance. It is a love story, and the entire cast consists of beautiful native people. To me the story line is incidental to the beauty of the scene.

It was a real surprise to find this movie to be a silent color movie. It remained me of a travel log you would see at a traveling show in the 50s or 60s. Very interesting from a National Graphic point of view.
