Steve Banning is hired on George Culverson's ranch after he helps save Culverson's man, Sam Parsons, from Haws McGee's ambush. Culverson is being threatened by McGee and his disreputable attorney, Abner Sneed, with an in-road of 20,000 sheep onto his cattle range as revenge for Culverson's refusal to let McGee see his lovely daughter Jean. Steve and Jean believe that Sneed works for Eli Parker, whose wife died and son ran away when he was forced from his property by Culverson twenty-five years before. After several skirmishes between Steve and McGee, Sneed has the sheriff issue a warrant for Steve on an assault charge. When Jean visits Parker, her suspicions that he is seeking revenge on Culverson are confirmed, and seeing a photograph of Parker's wife, realizes that she is the same woman in a photo in Steve's watch. While Jean is with Parker, McGee and his henchmen arrive to receive payment from Parker, and kidnap Jean. Steve follows Sneed to the cabin where Jean is being held and looks on while Sneed informs McGee that he intends to take Jean for himself, causing a fight in which McGee kills Sneed. After McGee leaves the cabin to get more money from Parker, Steve rescues Jean and leads the late-arriving sheriff's posse in a chase after McGee, with Jean following. Steve shoots McGee, and when Jean catches up to him at Parker's ranch, she introduces Parker to his long-lost son Steve. Jean and Steve are then united.
