Fever Dream of a Vampire Movie
- Tim
- 12/16/12
I remember seeing this movie on local, late night television just a few years after it had been made (1973). Even as a teenager, I was taken aback by just how different this movie was compared to other vampire movies I had previously seen. I was familiar with Hammer Films take on Dracula and vampires, as well as the American International films such as Count Yorga and Deathmaster. However, Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural was like nothing else I had ever seen. The movie was obviously low-budget, yet it still looks and feels like it was actually shot in the 1930's. The majority of the characters seem to drip with sweat and sleaze as they lust after the innocence of Lila Lee, who goes through most of the movie oblivious to the not-so-subtle stares and innuendo cast in her direction. Most of the film takes place in an almost perpetual night filled with all manner of bizarre half-human creatures that are a lot more frightening than any modern CGI creature that Hollywood now throws at us. Everything about this atmospheric movie is excellent and well worth watching and I recommend it for anyone who would like to see something different for a change.
