The film begins with a voice-over narration explaining "Unmay," the ghostly old man who represents fate and who appears only to evil men. According to the Daily Variety review, Oriental Evil was filmed entirely in Tokyo, Japan. The review also stated that the picture was "too Japanese" to appeal to many American viewers. The Hollywood Reporter review misspelled art director Seigo Shindo's name as "Sigo" and lists actor Tetsu Nakamura as "Teton."
