What a great tale for children.Led by their Aboriginal ranch hand's son, four youngsters cross rugged Aussie outback to save a stolen mare and foal. This is a wonderful adventure, as the five kids (and a gorgeous little black dog) use tracking skills and defensive moves that could be taken from John Ford's westerns. The child actors provide enormously realistic portrayals, with no precious "Hollywood" cuteness. And there is a strong young female lead role that Nicole Kidman would play in her earliy career. All in all, a Christmas "Western" that is nonviolent, nonthreatening, and inspires the use of thinking and deduction in young children.

An Aussie movie and a delight. Watch it, the kids and dog win.

A wonderful glimpse of a simpler time. It reminds me of both "The Forest Rangers" (a TV show on in Canada in the 60s) and "The Gods Must Be Crazy."

A delightful look at a Christmas in a simpler time and place. Reminds me of northern Ontario in the 50s and "The God's Must be Crazy."
