Female revolutionaries compete for the same man.

During the Mexican revolution, one of Pancho Villa's loyal officers, Colonel Zeta, is forced to conscript all able-bodied males in a small town. The tiny, ragged army is roused from their demoralized apathy by a woman soldier called La Cucaracha, who subsequently falls in love with Zeta. The Colonel is also attracted to the more demure Chabela, a soldier's widow. Following a gun battle in which he kills a rival, Razo, Zeta abandons La Cucaracha in favor of Chabela. Several months and battles later, La Cucaracha, who is pregnant with Zeta's child, meets the army and learns that Zeta has been killed. Seeing the silent Chabela, who has become a soldier herself, La Cucaracha follows the weary men as they move towards the mountains.
