Mr. and Mrs. Winton, a television scriptwriting team, are shocked when their teenaged son David is arrested for drunken driving. In hopes of discovering the causes of David's problems, they decide to write a television program about teenagers. As part of their research, they attend one of Billy Graham's Los Angeles Crusade meetings and are so impressed that they convert to Christianity. David scorns them and runs away to Palm Springs with a seductive friend, April. En route, he discovers that April has merely come for the ride and intends to elope with Ray, a truckdriver by whom she is pregnant. Ray does not turn up, and April attempts to commit suicide by slashing her wrists. While Mrs. Winton comforts April's anguished mother at the hospital, David and his father have a long talk. At the next Crusade meeting, when Billy Graham asks for those who believe in Christ to stand up, David does so.
