THE TALE OF FRANÇOISE: Françoise and Jacqueline are former schoolmates who have remained close friends. Jacqueline boasts of her lover's faithfulness, while the more cynical Françoise decides to find out for herself. THE TALE OF SOPHIE: Attempting to appear worldly before her classmates, the innocent Sophie invents a passionate lover. Her friends stand watch in front of her supposed love nest (in reality, the home of her best friend), while Sophie sneaks out through a window and enters the room of a young rock-and-roll singer. They fall in love and are seen by Sophie's envious friends. The next morning Sophie tries to confess the truth, but no one will believe her.
