Dodge's story was also published in book form (New York, 1918). The film had a pre-release run in New York beginning October 13, 1918. Inspired by Jewel's advance publicity campaign, a nationwide movement was initiated to form Anti-Yellow Dog clubs. Boys wishing to join the clubs were instructed to "ferret out pro-German sympathizers and rumor-mongers, and label them 'Yellow Dog.'" According to news items, city and state officials commonly involved themselves in the formation of these clubs. Various release dates were listed in the reviews.
