Sherlock, Jr.

One of Keaton's best films which has inspired countless other directors. Keaton directs & stars as a projectionist & wannabe detective who clears his name after his girlfriend's the victim of a rival suitor. Keaton also tackles serious issues about American society, the double striving for fulfillment & the nature of art. A terrific comedy which showcases some of Keaton's best stunt work. I give ita 4.5/5.

What imagination! Its clear where Woody Allen got his inspiration for The Purple Rose of Cairo. Buster Keaton's physical humor and comedic timing is brilliant. This is such a delightful film and very funny. Well directed by Keaton as well. There are so many great scenes - the movie theater, billiard game etc. Erwin Connelly is great as the butler.

One of the greatest and most surreal films about movies and our love for them. Full of amazing effects (and this is 1924!) and incredible stunts and sight gags, its short length (under 50 mins) still feels like a complete feature film. Many silent film fans find the score for the video release of "Sherlock Jr." too modern or distracting. A piano score that's much more appropriatem -- and which synchs perfectly with the edition airing on TCM -- is available for download at www.altscore.com
