After 21 years of marriage, John and Mary Wilbur have reached a bitter stalemate, though they pretend affection for the sake of Bernice, their daughter just home from college. Mrs. Wilbur entertains lavishly and becomes infatuated with Prince Dabreau, while John is beset and vamped by Claire Daltour, an actress who is seeking a divorce from Chuck Callahan, a prizefighter. Bobby Horton, who is infatuated with Claire, thinks Wilbur is his rival until he falls under the spell of Bernice. Mrs. Wilbur sets out to get even with John by going to a jazz rendezvous with Dabreau, and to her surprise she meets her daughter there. In a whirlwind finish with Bernice on Dabreau's yacht and Bobby chasing Dabreau, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur are reconciled and Bobby and Bernice are married.
