Colonel Girard and Major Wingate, two old southern gentlemen, are the best of friends until Wingate's secretary does not acknowledge payment of a promissory note by Colonel Girard to the major. Girard goes to Wingate for an explanation and, while he is there, Major Wingate is murdered by an unknown assailant. Colonel Girard is arrested for the crime, and his daughter, Betty, returning from finishing school abroad, sets out to prove her father's innocence. With the help of Larry Wingate, Major Wingate's son with whom she is in love, she proves that Wingate was murdered by his secretary, intended to use the note to blackmail Betty into marriage. Betty's horse wins $10,000 in a race, and she and Larry prepare to be married.
