It is odd to say the least that two films would be made at about the same time about the same subject but whileParamount was filming Harlow starring Carroll Baker-a very fine actress-and a fine cast such as Michael Connors, et al, a small outfit was shooting a film on tape starring piquant a miscast Carol Lynley as the scorching blonde bombshell and Ginger Rogers in a great cameo. This film of the two is gritter and has some very fine things about it mostly Rogers, and it is worthy to see as a companion piece to the big budget Paramount picture filmed in color.Marilyn Monroe until her death had her heart set on starring in Harlow and would have been magnificent. One iconic star playing another. Box Office Queen Kim Novak who is a very under appreciated skilled actress turned down the role much to our regret. Paramount at the time had sexy Stella Stevens under contract and Ms. Stevens would have brought a vivid portrait of the great Harlow. I give this version Three (3) stars because of Ginger Rogers, a real Star

I saw this once, in 1969, on a Philadelphia UHF channel. It was entertaining, and Carol Lynley was young and pretty. Back then, some people were interested in 1930's Hollywood, which was one of the best eras for films and stars. I'd love to see this again!

  • Would love to see it.

This one came and went really quickly. I think it was the also-ran with the bigger-budget Carrol Baker/Angela Lansbury version, which came out at the same time. My recollection is that this one was rushed into production using an early videotaping technology called Electronovision, then transfered to film for distribution to theaters. I can't imagine that Carol Lynley was any more convincing as Harlow than Carrol Baker was, but I'd love to see this. Plus, it must have been one of Ginger Rogers' last roles. I've never heard of it being shown, so I hope a good copy still exists. Even a bad copy.
