Dr. Jim Keene, a great surgeon whose professional life occupies most of his time, loves his wife, Helen, but she resents his devotion to his work. When he suffers a nervous collapse, the couple go on a sea voyage; Helen is the only woman aboard a ship manned by roughnecks and skippered by a hulking brute. She is attracted to the captain's virility, and a quarrel ensues between the captain and Jim during a storm; the captain is injured, and Jim is forced to operate to save his life. With the aid of the crew, Jim makes Helen realize the captain's bestiality, and in a final battle Jim is able to beat him. Jim and Helen are reconciled, and she understands his love for her and learns to respect his profession.
