The window of Herbert Thompson's memory reveals the unrequited love of Angelina Kilbourne, whom Herbert discarded in his youth for the wealth and social prominence of Ann Morton. While Angelina pursues the teaching profession and performs many good deeds, Herbert rises to become district attorney and the father of two children, Bert and Virginia. In defense of his sister's honor, Bert kills a man in a notorious roadhouse, and Angelina persuades Herbert to resign his office to defend his son. In later years Bert succeeds in the business world, returns home, and prevents a "progress-minded" school administration from ousting Angelina, now aged. Angelina is further rewarded by the betrothal of Bert to his schooldays' sweetheart, Betty Towner.
