Prominent New Yorker Peter Schuyler's supposed friend Lee Austin is scheming to have him marry Marion Dinsmore, who would later get a divorce and a large settlement, thus financing a subsequent marriage to Austin. The plans are ruined, however, when Peter is hit on the head by thieves and develops amnesia. He gets a job at a lumber camp in the Northwest woods using the name John Doe and exposes a scheme by the camp's manager Joe Bouvier, while falling in love with Bouvier's niece Justine. Peter marries Justine, but Bouvier fights him and hits his head with a revolver causing him to remember his life as Peter Schuyler and lose all knowledge of his time as John Doe. Peter goes to New York where Austin and Marion try to prove with a phony marriage certificate that Marion is Peter's wife. Justine, with the help of Peter's doctor, gradually gets him to remember his life in the lumber camp. The scheme is unearthed and Justine and Peter remain happily married.
