As Madame Rosepettle arrives at a tropical island with her doting 25-year-old son, Jonathan, her collection of Venus flytrap plants, and a coffin containing the stuffed body of her late husband, her actions are carefully watched from a heavenly cloud by Dad himself. Determined to make a man of his simpering son, Dad arranges for Rosalie, a seductive babysitter, to meet Jonathan. Madame Rosepettle is so arrogantly confident of her son that she interrupts her own pursuit of Commodore Roseabove, a wealthy lecher, to allow Rosalie to attempt a seduction. Although Jonathan obeys his mother's teachings, he later secretly watches some home movies she shows to the commodore and is so appalled by her past that he destroys all of her possessions. Hearing the commotion, Rosalie barges in on him, seizes the opportunity to fling him on his mother's bed, and refuses to interrupt her seduction even when Dad's corpse falls out of a closet on top of them. Jonathan, however, is so upset by the experience that he strangles Rosalie and then flees from the scene. When Madame Rosepettle returns from her wedding to the commodore and discovers what has happened, she sets out to find Jonathan. During the chase that follows, the commodore suffers a heart attack while attempting to rescue Jonathan from a runaway motorboat. Once her son has been returned to her, Madame Rosepettle, dressed in mourning, leaves the island with her entourage, which now includes two coffins. As she beams proudly at her untainted son, Dad, defeated, climbs back on to his cloud.
