A harrowing account of the real-life horrors experienced by Billy Hayes. Davis won a Newcomer of the year Award at the Golden Globes for his portrayal of Hayes, as did Miracle in the same category as his girlfriend and Hurt for his supporting performance. Won the Golden Globe for Best Picture-Drama, in addition to Oscar wins for score & Stone's screenplay, meaning he takes liberties with what "really" happenend and only portraying Turks as violent beings. Intense, thrilling and powerful with a message about never giving up on hope. I give it a 4.5/5.

Surprise! Hollywood twist the moral issue to make it look like a drug trafficer is an innocent victim and those who try to stop drug use the bad guys. Ask your self this question, what is he was sucessful in bringing home the drugs? What if half the peole who used the drugs became addicted or worse died from an over dose? Hollywood refuses to look at the situtation from the moral issue. Ahh! liberalism at it's finest.

This a very good movie. I don't think USA wanted to see a real movie, regardless if it was about an American. Was nominated for Best Picture and won for best music score by Ennio Morricone. I thought so much of the score that I special ordered it - years before Amazon. I don't know how to improve this movie, so that, means to me that it has no weaknesses. Only two movies affected more than this movie : Clockwork Orange and Chinatown. These three movies set my expectations at a pretty high plateau for me to judge a movies excellance.

I'd love to see this again, cuz it would be CC like most of your movies, as you are well known to me to have CC on movies I saw as a kid, but didn't know what was going on since I am deaf. Please bring this movie back so I can see (read) everything that I missed. Its a GREAT movie!! Of course when I watched a movie back then w/o CC, I always had to ask someone what was being said. No more! Thanks again TCM!!!! I love you!
