Too Bad This Pilot Didn't Take Off
- ZZZIZ
- 9/1/09
Bette Davis would have been in this TV series had the pilot gone well. She would have played the judge with as many Monk-ish hang-ups that make that series so amusing. On top of her own neurotic personality traits, Jake Wyler was to be an ex-con detective who gathered the information they needed from the criminal underground of parolees and other ex-cons. It is a delightful pilot episode. I imagine that if it were aired today it would take off like a rocket launched into outer space. Can't you just imagine Bette Davis as the neurotic ex-judge who runs a detective agency with the help of folks she'd previously convicted? Someone ought to try it now; but, I don't know of the actor who could pull off Davis' brand of exacting wry dark humor.

Pilot for a Series starring Bette Davis
- georgies
- 7/30/09
The judge is Judge Meredith (Bette Davis)who's retired from the bench, is quirky with hypochonriasis, now runs a detective agency with Jake Wyler (Doug McClure) an ex-convict! This show is a riot because Davis is like the modern "Monk," character. So the former judge and former criminal work together as detectives by using other criminals on parole and such to do their gum shoe investigating. No idea why the series didn't work because this episode is too rich. If you can lay hands on it, grab it to own. It's a rare VHS collectible when in mint condition.
