This may be Andrew McCarthy's greatest role, and if you think this is "damning with faint praise" you may be correct, but the movie is great with or without him. It is a compelling story about a child who becomes attached to a tree, but when she finally reaches the realization that nothing lasts forever, she makes a bold move that pays off in unexpected ways. Should be up there with Wonderful Life as Christmas Classics watched every year, but you really have to search for it - this year I only saw it on the INSP inspirational channel. Sally Field's directorial debut. Only issued on tape. We want the DVD!

The music is very tender and moving as is the film. The acting was superb and you are just swept away in the love and emotion from all the characters. I get goose bumps just writing this and thinking about the movie. I too hope someone decides to distribute this commercially one day as I would love to share it with my loved ones. Everyone should see this beautiful piece of work. I too stumbled across it this year for the first time and it came at a time I needed to hear and see love and respect develop between strangers. Will keep checking for updates on distribution.Happy 2013 to everyone.

My Mom, who is 86 years old, loves this movie. She did research about the movie it in hopes of finding it. It aired on ABC Sunday Night Movie in December 1996. Directed by Sally Field and based on a novel by Julie Salamon. I have been searching for years. I wish I could find this and surprise her. She would be so happy. If anyone has any info on this coming out on DVD, please pass it along. It would be appreciated more than you know. Merry Christmas to all!!

I have been trying to locate this film since they played it back, so many years ago on TV. I have wrote TV stations and such just to see if there was any way to purchase or watch this movie again. It was the most touching, beautiful movie I had ever watched and almost 15 years later, I would still love so much to see it again. I pray some channel will play it this Holiday season and I will be lucky enough to find out ahead of time. I've tried so many website to search for this movie, but have had no luck. Please TMC...... Play this movie this Christmas Season for so many that would love to see it...

This is a wonderful family holiday movie! My husband and I saw it once many years ago and really enjoyed it. Since then, we look for it every year on the TV schedule, but, unfortunately it is never listed. I think a lot of people would love it, if they only had the opportunity to see it. We keep hoping!!!

THis is one of the most moving Christmas specials ever. I fortunately taped it at the time & watch it yearly, but would so love to have it on DVD as tapes wear & fade. J
