Much better the second time around
- Mr. Blandings
- 10/25/12
Just thought I'd add this note since the first time I watched this movie online it was missing more than a half-an-hour of footage! Obviously, the movie came up somewhat lacking. Having seen it in its entirety now, I can say that the film is much better than what I'd originally rated it. The movie makes more sense, has more humor, and Loretta Young's character has more heart. From now on I'm double-checking the running times of all films I watch online! ***

Hilarious romantic screwball comedy..
- Lynn
- 2/12/12
Ray Milland and Loretta Young are wonderful in this screwball comedy with a great supporting cast. Both make this improbable script work with their screen chemistry and comedic talents. Iif you don't think Ray Milland or Loretta Young can do comedy, you're in for a surprise and lots of laughs.

The Doctor Takes A Wife (1940)
- Mr. Blandings
- 11/2/11
Ray Milland gives it the old college try despite a decidedly unfunny script. Loretta Young, usually mundane, tries way too hard to play the manic shrew in this one but mainly she comes across as unappealing.

This is right up there with the great screwball comedies. Many truly funny moments.

This movie is simply great and it definitely is a sleeper. I can't really agree with the brief synopsis that Ray's character, Dr. Stevens, is a woman hater. Shallow perhaps, but not a woman hater. Loretta's character is a typical feminist (nothing like today's bra-burning meninists thank the Lord) but in the end she comes to her senses. Not a surprise for a true classy lady like Loretta Young. This movie will bring many laughs if only TCM would play it more often. Hint, Hint.
