walt disney, i think, would be shocked and saddened at what his own company has done to david (davy) crockett, the man who saved his company from bankruptcy. sure billy bob looked like davy, uncanny, but i believe it ends right there.there isnt one scene, not one shot, that can touch what john wayne filmed in 1960 the whole 2004 movie centres around sam houstons drinking, rather than the alamo defenders. the, we are going to do it right this time, publicity plug, is insulting and under handed . james butler bonhams incredable rides across texas to try and get help,( recruits,) and his fantastic return charge through mexican siege lines, has been compared with paul reveres ride among others, is completely left out of this film. susanna dickinson is only a shadow, a brief glimpse here, no character development, of a lady who played a major part, as witness, to what happened during and after the siege. history tells us travis was not a wimp, who couldnt decide what to do, but rather a man of confidence and conviction determend to hold on. bowie, yes he had been a drunk for a while, lose your whole family to the plague and see what you might do (god forbid). his letters from the alamo tell us he was also determined to fight on. i believe and according to eye witnesses, texan and mexican, they all died fighting bravely. no quarter, no surrender. the spirit of the alamo is almost completely lost in this film.
