  Danny Kaye is great in his movie debut. He works with a Robin Hood type character known as "The Fox." He plays several rolls and does several accents. He is mistaken as The Fox and does a great sword fight with Basil Rathbone's character. Angela Lansbury is the spoiled princess who gets her way. This movie has music, singing, dancing, comedy, action and romance. What more could you want in movie? It is a shame that it is out of print and the few DVD's that are for sale are price prohibitive.

  Highlighted by an all star cast, outstanding film color illuminates this Danny Kaye powered film. With intent on showing Kaye's talents, it succeeds in doing so. Not to be overlooked are the costume's. Quite grand. All the actors hit their marks. Very successful in longevity, surpassing its box office opening. Deftly proves, films can't judged by an opening or by critics. Yes, that's a curvacious Angela Lansbury!

  Danny Kaye is one of my favorite early actors.I introduced my kids to The Court Jester years ago and they loved it.Any chance of it being released on DVD ?

• One of the Best Comedies Ever Made

  When I first saw this movie on television when there were only 3 channels - as a young teen in the 1970s - I just couldn't stop laughing. From the zany antics of the lead actor, Mr. Danny Kaye, and the witty dialogue that transpires from beginning to end, it has to be one of the finest and funniest movies still. The 'pellet with the poison' bit is priceless and the sword fight with the infamous villain - Basil Rathbone - had me in stitches. Even after 30 years I never grow tired of this wonderful film. Danny Kaye is simply wonderful in what I think is his tailor-made role. All of the casting is just perfect and I don't know how the actors/actresses performed in this film without laughing out loud. It's just a great, great comedy and I'm glad TCM is airing - they just don't make great comedic films like this anymore. I rank it up there with another one of my all-time favorite film comedies, 'It's a Gift' with W.C. Fields.

  Danny's finest with Basil Rathbone duel to add.He seemed to be quite winded after first crossing swords.But he was 63,and still in fighting trim.Nicer legs than Danny,too.Danny could maybe outdo him after 2 weeks,but still he was so much younger and Baz is my main reason for watching,even if Ouida couldn't spend it fast enough.

  Easily Danny Kaye's best film -- this one full of adventure, romance, and of course, hilarity. The songs are fun and memorable, the stunts and physical comedy superb. Glynis Johns has never been more lovely, or Danny Kaye so funny. A family comedy that is a perennial classic. Yea, verily, yea!

  With football just about over old movies can fill an hour or two with entertainment. This movie might have been the precursor to Monty Python.
