Director Makes Actors Shine!
- Raymond Banacki
Very contrived material, and, yet, the director, Charles Walters, works miracles with it.
GREAT CLASSIC ROMANCE!
One of the best classical love songs from a movie is the title theme sung by Frank Sinatra. I adore Debbie Reynolds! Celeste Holm has always been a favorite...she was with Sinatra in Grace Kelly's last film, High Society, which is a very similar love story centered around Grace Kelly & Bing Crosby. Back to "The Tender Trap" - which is of course a love story reflecting its times, but very enjoyable. If you want to enjoy a movie for humor, romance, and entertainment, this is one of the movies to watch. You'll get away from all the violence, swearing, raw sex, etc. of today! So get your snacks and drinks ready to sit back, relax and simply enjoy the pure entertainment. A great one for couples, or a meeting with just the girls.
Not a Fan of this Film
I think all the actors do a wonderful job. But, the storyline between Sinatra and Reynolds just absolutely annoys me. It seems ridiculous. Maybe it is a time capsule, but this time I can't relate enough to the story to even be able to see it in its context. Thankfully, there are Wayne's and Holm's characters. They seem to be the only sane ones. I did enjoy seeing the movie the first time, just to see the beautiful sets and wardrobe.
The Tender Trap (1955)
- James Higgins
Very enjoyable film, one of Frank Sinatra's best romantic comedies. Debbie Reynolds is delightful. But it's David Wayne and Celeste Holm that steal the film from the leads. Good title song.
Hurray for the supporting cast
The Debbie Reynolds character epitomizes the loused up woman's self image that has taken over 20 years to correct. But hurray for the Celeste Holm character! Her strength and the charm of the David Wayne character are the redeeming elements of this story.
GREAT VOCAL WITH MINIMAL BACKGROUND (JUST PIANO)
- Richard Shokite
I have listened to the tune Love Is a Tender Trap by Sinatra on future or post 1955 takes and the song gets faster and faster as the years of its recording get later and later. I remember in the movie how Sinatra listens to Love is a Tender Trap being sung without meaning or much too quickly, and than Sinatra sings the tune with just a piano and I was blown away. This is kind of the way that time differs from NOW, we are in a hurry to get the song over with and move on, as differentiated from the Piano and Voice of 1955. WoW have we gone astray!
I wanna be a Sinatra girl too! This movie is sooo funny. Frank is hilarious. It is a must see romantic comedy. I bought the DVD so I can watch it with my girlfriends.
Comedy Fun for all ages
Sinatra is at his best when doing comedy. He is so natural and relaxed. This picture is great for the whole family. The ending is a little rushed.. pay close attention to the newspaper clipping near the end. Like they always say...They don't makem like they used to!
The Tender Trap
i really like this movie! I think it is funny and cute! I also really like Debbie Reynolds and Frank Sinatra!!
