  • Playwright Scott McPherson had already completed an early draft of the screenplay for "Marvin's Room" when he died in November 1992 due to complications resulting from AIDS. McPherson's play was originally produced at Chicago's Goodman Theater during the 1989-90 season. It opened Off Broadway at Playwrights Horizons and, following a sold-out run, switched to the Minetta Lane Theater. "Marvin's Room" was named Best Play by the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle for the 1991-92 season.
