  Thou there are some inaccuracies in the film Midway , i would still highly recommend it as it is an enjoyable movie to watch. The Cast of actors is a fine ensemble of talent , just like such movies as The Longest Day , A Bridge Too Far. I wonder why the people who continue to print the movie does not re-edit in the other segments of the film that were cut out. The scene with the young japanese officer talking with i believe Admiral Nagumo about stopping the war with the US and the important Coral Sea Battle - which is only hinted at during the movie ....fortunately along time ago i had the greatest luck of acquiring a recorded copy of the long version. cant remember how i got it , but at least i have it. i hope in the future that whomever has the rights to the movie will restore the original film with all the deleted scenes and put them on blu-ray. That would be great.

• The Great Naval Battle of War In the Pacific

  The Battle of Midway was the turning point in the Pacific War and rendered the outcome of WWII as likely a Allied Victory. Assembling a great all star cast of professionals such as Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Glenn Ford, Robrt Mitchum and in supporting roles such fine actors as Glenn Corbett, this film is a very fine war film depicting the heroism of those who fought and died for our Freedom.

  Henry Fonda reprises his role of Adm. Chester W. Nimitz as he leads an all-star cast including Charlton Heston, Glenn Ford, Hal Holbrook, James Coburn, Robert Mitchum, Cliff Robertson and Toshiro Mifune in a re-enactment of what has been called the most decisive battle in World War II in the Pacific as U.S. Navy aircraft carriers engage the Imperial Japanese Navy and Air Force in a fierce air-and-sea battle. Featuring appearances by Tom Selleck, Erik Estrada, Dabney Coleman, Steve Kanaly, Christopher George, Phillip R. Allen, Kip Niven, Glenn Corbett and Alfie Wise. The movie suffers from unwarranted stock battle footage from "Tora! Tora! Tora!" and "Thrity Seconds Over Tokyo" and an interracial love story of a young Navy pilot and a beautiful Japanese girl, whose engagement is being threaten by racism and war hysteria. Toshiro Mifune's voice is being dubbed by Paul Frees. Also starring Robert Wagner, Edward Albert, James Shigeta, Pat Morita, Ed Nelson, Christina Kokubo, Robert Ito, Seth Sekai, Monte Markham, John Fujioka, Sab Shimono & Conrad Yama.

• Footage from THIRTY SECONDS OVER TOKYO

  This movie misleads its audience in the beginning. On screen text indicates that whenever possible, real footage of the fighting is used...and that is only partially true. In fact, right after the filmmakers state that, the opening credits begin with unattributed shots from MGM's black-and-white 1944 war drama THIRTY SECONDS OVER TOKYO. The footage has been tinted to look like it is authentic newsreel footage from 1942 which it is not. After the credits finish, we then see an antique car driving in what is supposed to be Japan, but it has been filmed in mid-1970s California. I could go on about the other discrepancies: 1970s-style instrumental music plays throughout much of the movie's soundtrack; the Japanese characters all speak perfect English; and there is what seems more like a modern-day romance between an American man and a Japanese woman, though it's supposed to be 1942. This was obviously a big budget film from Universal and it has an impressive cast of old-time Hollywood stars, as well as future film star Tom Selleck in a minor role. It's great to see all this money and talent put into one film, but the result is not as good as one would expect.
