Saw this piece on TCM. What an excelent promotion of Collegiate gymnastics. This quality footage includes one of the "Greats" in USA Gymnastics History. Jay Asmore, was one of the first to perfom double back flips in gymnastics. The film also demonstrates the wide support that Universities provided to collegiate students athletes involved in this illustrious Olympic Sport. With the exception of the Olympic Games, the typical USA sports fan is not educated on the intracacies of gymnastics. After Title 9, sports like Men's gymnastics suffered drastically. With Gymnastics being the most popular Olympic sport, it is unrealistic that Collegiate gymnastics is all but non-existant. There exists currently only a handful of supported University programs in this country. What a shame. This type of footage should be provided to Gymnastics archivists to share with the next generation of coaches.

I saw this short (one-reel) this weekend on TCM. It's fantastic and should be released for all USGA groups. It promotes gymnastics and shows youngsters how this sport has prgressed to college and beyond. My grandson has been involved in gymnastics since he was 7 years old and is currently on a team. This short would be a great inspiration for him and his team mates and would promote Men's gymnastics and encourage colleges and universities to offer this sport. I'm surprised that the USGA has not asked for copies of this great inspirational short.
