One of Katherine Hepburns best film
I have searched for this film for years, please bring this movie out on DVD. I caan only find it in her collection edition. I aleady have all the movies in the indiviual edition that is on on collection version. I want the individual edition dvd of Undercurrent starring Katherine Hepburn. This is one of her greatest performance. Please bring this movie out on DVD individual edition, besides the collection!
Undercurrent's alternate musical universe
- John Burleigh
"Undercurrent" takes place in an alternate universe in which everyone who sits down at the piano, whether on or off screen (Edmund Gwenn, Katherine Hepburn and Robert Mitchum), only plays one piece, over and over -- a transcription of something that wasn't even written for piano, the 3d movement from Brahms' 3d Symphony. At one point Gwenn and Hepburn even break into a version for four hands! I was waiting for the ubiquitous theme to show up on somebody's doorbell, like the theme song in "The Long Goodbye," but no such luck. That would have been funny, and one thing this slack attempt at another "Rebecca" or "Laura" certainly lacks is funny.
Unique roles and pairings supply interest
It's always interesting to see good and favorite players put together in atypical roles and venue. That's part of the draw of this picture. The film has appeal all the way through, as far as I am concerned, because of the players who are fascinating enough on their own, and the combination of them. Understand this is a "breakout" role for Mitchum, from average B movies to playing with these veteran stars. He holds his own here. All in all, it's a picture that holds interest as it goes, fulfilling suspense and outcome.
powerful and true to life
- Anne Claiborne
This story and the amazing acting of Taylor and Hepburn is one of my all time favorite. When you have an "undercurrent" relationship you will recognize how profound this movie is!The scenery is an gorgeous bonus! This film is massively underestimated and grateful to Minelli for his vision and direction
Este filme maravilhoso. Katharine Hepburn e Robert Taylor tem uma qumica perfeita. Eu adoro este filme
For an older movie this movie not only caught my intrest, but that of my younger 18 yr. old sister. The acting was so great it made me a Robert Taylor fan.
- James Higgins
Nicely produced mystery thriller, Katherine Hepburn gives a good performance but Robert Taylor doesn't seem to have his heart in the role. Robert Mitchum is impressive in one of his earliest roles.Well photographed and the art direction is better than average. It's not a bad story, it is just a little slow moving sometimes and just lacks spark.
SUSPENSE - WHERE'S MICHAEL?
This entire movie revolves around the mysterious, wrongly accused and nearly invisible, Michael. Ann and Alan Garroway (Katharine Hepburn and Robert Taylor) are very good together, until things begin to unravel, then Alan turns scary and dangerous. When we finally do see brother Michael Galloway (Robert Mitchum) he is a pleasant, calming presence. Even though Ann is naive, thankfully she senses discord and pursues truthful information, which eventually saves her life. Enjoyed the piano playing and Virginia country house. It's rather sad to see Alan turn evil.
