nothing is sacred
this should settle if remake psychosis is real or not. years after this was made..i believe there was a tv version of tarzan.. in which..they had him in new york ..for a time... with tony Curtis. this proves it.. America lost the collective mind it had years ago.
Compared To What?
I think this is a great film. Especially compared to what came next via Lex Barker and Gordon Scott and even after them. This is a very touching film that perhaps any dad can relate to. TARZAN leaves his successful isolationistic existence to rescue his son who is kidnapped and taken to New York City. Initially he trusts Jane to get them though the culture that she is familiar with and he is not. Eventually he takes the lead and the result is exciting. How could you discount TARZAN jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge? The whole picture is worth that part alone. Eventually TARZAN succeeds. Against all odds he finds his son rescues them from the bad guys and they all make it back to the escarpment safely. What dad wouldn't go to the ends of the earth to save his son from harm? I could always relate to what a great dad TARZAN was in the MGM series. Unfortunately, this is then last film of 6 from MGM and RKO never achieved the same quality that MGM did. If you have never seen it, now is your chance. And compared to anybody that comes after him, Johnny portrays the best movie TARZAN even today.
Tarzan's New York Adventure
- Dashiell barnes
The sixth & last "Tarzan" film made at MGM. Weissmuller & O'Sullivan are still the same characters from the first film & don't change as characters throughout the series, but "Cheetah" the chimpanzee is energetic & fun. It's interesting to see the characters interact in a modern setting, but the story is implausible & abstract. The least effective film in the "Tarzan" films is a mildly entertaining film. I give it a 2.5/5.
Last of the MGM Weissmuller Tarzan series.
This film marked the last of the Weissmuller MGM Tarzan series, the Tarzan series then went to RKO with Weissmuller, Sheffield, Cheta went with the series, but O'Sullivan dropped out. This film sparked many copies including Crocodile Dundee, and a very bad TV Tarzan film in the 1980's Tarzan in Manhatten, then later a terrible TV series with Jane as a cop.The part I like best in this film, is when Tarzan uses his jungle skills to defeat all who stand in his way to rescue his kidnapped son, the film was not as popular as the other Tarzan films, due to not being just in the jungle, and WWII and other problems in the real world were about to, or were happening.
