  • The Hill (**** out of 5)

Sean Connery does more than James Bond here, not a true army story from Britian but a story of prisioners being held in a stockade and the corrupt leaders there of. Wonderfully done.

  • Great Movie

Wonderful performances. This movie couldn't have been made without the star power of Sean Connery to enable the producers to obtain financing for such an offbeat movie.

  • Connery does not make it

This movie has an interesting storyline. Connery is NOT the great performance in this film. The entire supporting cast is responsible for making the film great. If you are to give credit where credit is due, in this film, start spreading it around equally.

Sean Connery at the height of his popularity as James Bond plays a memorable role as a British POW and delivers a solid performance. The scenes climbing up and down the hill of sand and dirt are memorable and the bad relations between the guards are played very well.......Connery looks a lot different minus his hairpiece he wore in James Bond movies......look for Ossie Davis as a prisoner who outperforms everyone in the film.

  • One of Sean Connery's best movies other than 007.

A good Sean Connery movie, lots of backstabbing, finger pointing. But I think Staff Williams is a coward, and scared of Trooper Roberts, that is why it was 3 on 1 not 1 on 1. Ozzie Davis, also a good actor.

  • Excellent war movie!

Great war drama without one battle scene. The war is between the guards and the prisoners. The futile battle of the downtrodden versus those in power. It also demonstrates that racial prejudice is not just American.

  • Superb WWII Film

The Hill is a film that definitely needs to be released on DVD. I would never have had an opportunity to see this film if not for TCM. The actors headlined by Sean Connery are superb. The characters are portrayed very realistically,as a viewer you are drawn into their lives and motives. This movie without a doubt is a masterpiece which has been long ignored. This film has been ignored basically because of Connery's Bond association. I hope that DVD release will finally occur and this film, along with director Sydney Lumet and the rest of the cast, will finally have the respect they undoubtly deserve.

  • Way overdue!!!

An under-rated movie, in my opinion, and a great change of pace for Sean Connery. The Hill demonstrates that the enemy need not be German, Japanese, or any other declared people, but a enemy on our own side.It smacks you in the face with it's brutal treatment of military prisoners who are abused by their own army. The Hill cries out to be on dvd in letterbox format!
