Edmund Purdom, Full of Star Potential!
- Raymond Banacki
Edmund Purdom made several films at MGM - "The Prodigal", "Athena", "The Student Prince" and "The King's Thief". He was extremely good-looking and had such a stylish presence. Too bad, MGM couldn't have turned him into a STAR. He would've been a great addition to their "stable of stars". 20th-Century-Fox used Edmund Purdom early in his career. He had a small role in their disaster flick, "Titanic". And he was the star of their huge Biblical epic, "The Egyptian". 20th-Century-Fox missed the boat here, too. Eventually, I believe, Edmund Purdom returned to England and continued to work there.
All of these early "period" movies were lousy, including this one.
