  • Eighty Years!

I saw this film for the first time today -- eighty years after it was made, and I enjoyed it immensely. The acting and direction are as expert and accurate as the art demands, then and now. Most impressive, especially the delicious young Ms. Loy. The script is brisk and clever and funny, especially the role of the butler. It was a delightful look back, but timeless, too -- I felt I'd never left the present. Bravos all around.

I watched this film for the first time as a result of Leonard Maltin picking it for air recently. I am a die hard Myrna Loy fan and absolutely loved her in this movie. Her performance in "Penthouse" is in my top ten of all of her movies I've seen. Thank you Leonard Maltin. You are a man with exceptional taste!

A wonderful Goodrich-Hackett script with Loy and Baxter well matched. Mae Clark and Robert E. O'Conner are a special bonus.

  • Early Loy Deco crime vehicle

    • 5/30/09

Early Myrna Loy showing all the beauty and potential she'd later establish as a leading lady. Film shows some of the snappy dialogue and innuendo that the 30's are best known for. Tight little film with good pacing and the irresistable Loy emerging as a star. Nice fast paced crime drama with good Deco backdrop.
