The Circus is criminally underrated. I laughed and cried; absolutely wonderful.

I feel that Charlie Chaplin was one of a kind! I feel we can learn from him even today.

Some of the music in this movie reminds me of the circus music I heard when I was a kid in the 60's. Is it possible that Charlie Chaplin created circus music from this movie, or is it likely that he borrowed from circuses in his youth.

The Circus was the last of Chaplin's feature films to come out during the silent era. The Little Tramp goes to work for a traveling circus & its evil & heartless owner who mistreats his own daughter, the circus's star performer. There are many memorable stunts, notably Charlie aping the mechanical figures in front of the Noah's Ark in order to escape the police, the bedlam in the Hall of Mirrors, and the incredible tightrope scene with Charlie on the high wire, half undressed, and monkeys swarming over his head & shoulders. Best laugh-out-loud moment: the circus owner's daughter finds the Little Tramp on the road and says "I've run away from the circus."5 stars - highly, highly recommended.

The 'Silent Sunday' movies only come on at midnight, and by then I'm exhausted..but this movie was really funny, and I liked it enough to actually stay up and watch it. It's a great film, and I suggest it to Silent Movie fans:D
