  • Based on the Frederick Forsyth novel "Day of the Jackal" (London, 1971).
  • The 1973 film "The Day of the Jackal," adapted from the novel by Frederick Forsyth, centered on an assassin's attempt to kill French President Charles de Gaulle. It was directed by Fred Zinnemann and starred Edward Fox.
  • Additional photography took place in downtown Los Angeles for approximately on week in late September 1997.
  • After complaints from Fred Zinnemann, director of the 1973 film "The Day of the Jackal," Universal Pictures agreed to change the name of this loose remake to "The Jackal."
  • Began shooting August 19, 1996.
  • Released in United States on Video April 28, 1998
  • Released in United States Fall November 14, 1997
  • Completed shooting December 1996.
  • Producer Kevin Jarre also contributed to the screenplay.
  • Released in USA on laserdisc May 16, 1991.
