THIS SHOULD BE ON DVD - AND RIGHT AWAY!
WHY hasn't this great old movie been transferred to DVD? This 1934 movie starring Helen Hayes is beautifully done. All the acting is great. And the story is timeless. There are ways to change people's attitude other than nagging or bullying - - through patience and love. It really amazes me how the movie distributors are letting all these great old movies stay hidden from the new-age public. These are gems that need to be seen by all. Please put this on DVD right away!
What every woman should know
- Gwen L-D
The movie is touching and worth watching. Shows the power of a woman in taking control of her life without trickery or hatred through gentleness. And how a man can become confused about what is real and wise for him.Helen Hayes is great, sincere in her presentation of the character. Brian Aherne is handsome and has to growup before he can be wise in his decision making before he can see something within her soul where true lasting companionship begins.I would watch it again. I love old movies with character, tenderness and true compassion and a good message. This is a good one.
Recorded on DVR by family member, finally watched and ended up loving the movie. Definitly interested in watching more movies with actors present.
What a delight! Rare find!
There's a reason Helen Hayes was known as the grande dame of the stage. This is a perfect example of her work and it is a great one! Brian Aherne is outstanding as her husband but it is she who steals the film. There's a great deal of wisdom in her character, Maggie. (Many women would do well to emulate her rather than flying off the handle when faced with her circumstance.) J.M. Barrie would be so proud of his book being translated to the screen in such a fine manner. See this film for the acting, which is superb, but take away the feeling of kindness and generosity that it engenders.
Sshould be worth the wait for DVD.Lovely Film
- Brian -Helen
Can't wait to see it again today,5/30/12.Lovely Helen and handsome Brian work well together
PUT MORE OLD MOVIES ON DVD!!!
- Jane Carey
It's nice that TCM has its "voting" system to see which movies should be put on DVD, but how can people vote on movies they've not seen?? Not only "What Every Woman Knows" - which is a fantastic story - but so many more should be put on DVD immediately! Such as "Farmer's Daughter", "White Banners", "Dulcy", "Anthony Adverse", "Bachelor Mother", Rachel & the Stranger", and many more! It is so frustrating not to be able to have these old movies on DVD when there are so many awful ones already on DVD. I wonder how THEY got on DVD? No one voted for them! I hope that TCM will pressure these movie companies to release many more of these great old movies on DVD!
YES! A GREAT ADAPTION!
- Jane Carey
This is one of the GREAT classics and should be on DVD! The acting is perfectly wonderful, the story has depth and humor and as a former reviewer states, it definitely keeps the tone and feel of the original book. TCM please don't let film distributors get away with not putting this on DVD right away!! This is a gem that should not be lost!
A Great Adaptation
This movie gives me hope for all film adaptations of novels or plays. The movie really keeps the feel of J.M. Barrie's play, but tells the story in its own way. If the Scottish accents don't throw you off, you'll enjoy this funny and touching movie!
