Alternate Versions

After initial premiere, the manager of the Paramount Theater in San Francisco added to the downbeat ending a few shots showing the Golden Gate Bridge being built. Seeing the positive public reaction, MGM decided to have the sequence added to all other prints in release.

When the film was re-released in 1948, the Golden Gate Bridge had already been completed by a decade, so MGM decided to remove that sequence from the ending because it was thought to be anachronistic.

The sequence has been put back again in the film in later reissues.
