  • Not bad, not good

With Jacques Tourneur at the helm, Robert Ryan as the male lead and a spy story set in postwar Germany, i was expecting a lot. More than it deserves, it turns out. First of all, Merle Oberon is pretty but dull, as usual. Secondly, the story is confusing and unconvincing. Thirdly, the allied team of English, Russian and American soldiers neither gell as a team nor oppose each other, they just keep each other company. In a good spy thriller sparks should fly, this just sizzles to an end. Still, it has some good moments, but could have been so much better.

This movie shows how Germany was able to instill fear in the hearts of many people. It is scary to think that these practices are still in effect in many countries of the world. It is a shame that ordinary groups of people are blamed for problems that they never cause.
