Basil's Movie
- Baz The Man

To me,he's great,sleazy,scary and attractive still.Lew and Laraine's interaction okay,but distracting from overall action.You go,Baz!

Laraine Day's character is such a stupid ditz, I hoped she would be axed. Got to admire an actress who can deliver those lines. Seriously, the Duffy character could do better, but some guys like ditzy liars. Rathbone is as always an excellent villain and makes the movie worth watching. Rathbone can do no wrong on film. Top notch pro!

A great actor in an interesting return to the villain role. He's wonderful after the stupid Sherlock Series wasting his talents when he could be teasing us with his arrogance as a comely villain.Always loved this man,no matter what he did.Would've liked to have known him back in the day.Seemed like such a well-around gent. And a fun person, charitable and kind according to anything I ever read, wanted to be liked by all.The rest of the cast do well, also. But I love Baz the man

- Lew and Laraine Day

Never doubted the talents of these leads.Edwina might be a dolt, but she's the one who avoids being killed.Loved her hitting B'day Boy Basil with her purse.Boy, does he seemed shocked.Probably quite a few more movies with someone getting caught flatfooted, too. His punch almost seemed real, too. But loved the reaction to the purse in the face.Suspense-filled,keeps you wondering.Deserves more showings.

Creepy But Well acted movie
- Basil Blue Eyed Monster
- 6/14/12
This movie stars Lew Ayres and Laraine Day,but this and The Mad Doctor are great Rathbone shockers.Love when the Laraine Day character winds up with her pocketbook and cracks him one in the face, did he get nailed for real,as his expression of shock seems to reveal? To me,b'day celebration or not,he will always be more interesting than the Universal Holmes series,an actor who never should have turned his back on Hollywood.

GREAT FILM NOIR MOVIE!!!!
- KEN
- 6/13/12
THIS MOVIES HAS EVERYTHING GOING FOR IT TO MAKE A GREAT FILM NOIR MOVIE. IN BLACK IN WHITE MOVIE HAS SHADOWS IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES AS WELL AS GOOD CONTRAST SHADING WHICH THE LIGHT AS WELL AS THE SHADOWS MAKE THIS A TRUE MASTERPIECE WHICH SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO DVD FOR ALL TO SAVIOR. ALONG WITH LEW ATRES AND THE CLASSIC GREAT ACTOR, BASIL RATHBONE IN ONE OF HIS OTHER THAN SHERLOCK ROLES WHICH THIS MOVIE WOULD MAKE A FINE ADDITION TO A BASIL RATHBONE DVD SET OF OTHER THAN SHERLOCK ROLES WHICH MR RATHBONE IS MOST NOTED FOR. GREAT MYSTERY STORY WITH A "WHO DONE=IT" FLAVOR WHICH KEEPS THE VIEWER FIXED TO RHE SCREEN FROM BEGINNING TO END. FIVE STARS FOR THIS ONE," FINGERS AT HE WINDOW" SIGNALING TO BE VIEWED FOR FILM NOIR PLEASURE.

Loathsome character, great performances.Question,Basil often seems to me to lead with opposite foot, like someone naturally left-handed,any opinions, love him, always!Constantly fidgeted with hands in early talkies. What a beautiful speaking voice, attractive man.

What Lew Ayres did or didn't do for the war effort should not have been anyone's concern. This is an entertaining movie, and good for him to stick to his principals. As a medic,he still put his life at risk.I'm sure it may have comforted some soldiers to know who rescued them when wounded!
